The most interesting piece I saw today at the NADA art fair in South Beach. Really great experiential installation. Those are mirrors, not paintings. The little room is amazingly calming and yet makes you feel a bit surveilled.

Homeless chic has been making waves in the fashion industry ever since Erin Wasson proclaimed Venice’s displaced population her style inspiration. Since then the Sartorialist has contributed to the conversation, as has Barneys with a pretty obvious mannequin-made ode to homeless fashion (and then Elle magazine even hired a intern who had been living in her car for months). Now, there’s a newly launched blog aiming to document the various hipsters whose style is derivative of transient fashion. Meet Hipster Is the New Homeless: the brainchild of Aaron Small and Jessica Rosenberg, who met while working at the revered ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

On the tail of controversy surrounding comments by Scott “the Sartorialist” regarding homeless fashion, as well as Erin Wasson’s street people debacle, we now have a whole blog about the intersection of hipsterness and homelessness. Great.

My goals for the January trip include:

Further exploration of the Templehof airport and mythologizing of the place my parents met/research for the project I’ve been writing for nearly 5 years.

More museums, not just the Hamburger Bahnhof.

A trip with Shannon to Potsdam, even though exploring castle gardens in the snow might be tricky.

Renting a BMW and taking the autobahn to the fake tropical beach dome.

Launching today Monday 30th November, in an unprecedented move Yoox.com will be selling Maison Martin Margiela’s super-luxe Artisinal collection including a dress made out of records, an elasticated jacket, a blazer crafted from sandals, and a disco-ball top. The Artisinal collection which includes both men’s and women’s garments will feature rare, one-off pieces that have been reworked by hand in Margiela’s Parisian atelier (though not necessarily by the man himself sadly…)

Yoox.com will be devoting a special section of its website to the 100 garments for sale, also featuring a wedding gown created from three other vintage wedding dresses, a plastic tag fur gilet and a tinsel coat.

A portion of all proceeds will go to the Rosa Spier House in Holland, a non-profit organization offering housing to retired artists and academics.
